I hope this is the proper section for this topic. Seeing as how the Korean Flagship
program at the University of Hawaii is one of the best known programs for advanced
Korean language education in the U.S., I thought it might be helpful if I shared my
personal experience after completing the two year program (it is divided between one
year in Hawaii and one year in Korea).
While I do not regret spending two years intensively studying Korean and wish everyone
attempting the language good luck, I would recommend other programs, particularly ones
at universities in Korea, if you are looking for a productive learning experience. The
Flagship program suffers from serious problems in terms of organization, funding, and
curriculum design, which have all made the learning process much harder than it has to
be.
