Yes, the chances someone will tease you for your accent are quite low.

Don't be so sure! Some latinist can be very, very conscious about pronunciation!

There is the Cambridge Old English Reader by Richard Marsden which is a nice book. It
has a wide range of texts to study including the Battle of Maldon, proverbs, psalms etc. It's not too expensive
either.

Indeed. I'd say that this is a great reader for non-scholars. Nice selections and a reasonable degree of glossing.

The two languages I have spent the most time on are Korean and Classical Chinese (which is not included in the list of languages we can mark ourselves as learning here for some reason; why is Ancient Greek on the list but not Clasical Chinese?). It's strange, I can read through pages of Korean in the same amount of time it takes me to piece together a single paragraph of Classical Chinese, but the latter is both somehow more enjoyable (despite the frustrations that lack of grammatical clarity can give rise to), and certainly feels like more of an accomplishment. I'm still not far enough along in Latin to be reading original texts yet, but I'm hoping for a similar experience (in terms of quality and enjoyment, not in terms of reading speed!).

Classical Chinese not on the list is strange. There is a thread, I suppose in the
technical room, where you can ask for adding languages on the list. Or you can create a
new topic somewhere where administrator can find it

Another "dead" language which is not on the list is Church Slavonic. I am not learning it at the moment, but have a dream of doing so once I have reached a decent level in Russian.

I have studied both Latin and Classical Greek, and I loved both, not least because reading Ovid, Virgil or Horats in translation can never beat working through their texts in original version. Unfortunately I do not have much time nowadays to dwell into Latin texts, but try to read a little bit from time to time in order to keep it up.
