I wanted to start a log about my personal language learning experience because it's a place where I can write
about my goals and what I have been able to accomplish if I stick to them.
I am trying to learn French right now as my first non-native language, I only speak English and Spanish right
now. I want to learn it after I took the French class at my Junior High for two years where I learned a little bit but
not enough to really understand it on the television or radio, or especially to keep a conversation. After running
across people who speak French I wanted to say hello, but I wasn't confidant I could say anything beyond that.
And that's the reason I want to learn new languages. To be able to talk to new people. From different parts of the
world and different walks of life.

My goal right now is sort of non-specific, but it is as follows: be able to read children's books; watch the news or
listen to it on radio; set my phone, and online accounts (e.x. Facebook) to French and still be able to use it; and
most importantly for me, to be able to keep a conversation.

For me this sounds really hard, so I am aiming for the end of this year to be able to watch and read the news.
And be able to read some simple books without the need of a dictionary.

My plan is to read the news for at least ten minutes in the morning when I wake up, using Learning with Text or
just a dictionary to understand what I don't. 10 more minutes to listen to it on the internet and write down what I
hear and read the transcripts. Then later at night to go through 2 pages of a French text book I own, then with a
story from a children's French story book. I hope to set the bar real low so if I start to like it, I'll eventually do
more without giving up. It sounds hard, fun, intimidating, but exciting all at the same time. Thanks for reading.
