I have some GCSE French syllabus books and a number of 'Reussir DELF' type books and I
would say from comparison that a higher level GCSE (C-A*) is a CEFR A2 not B1. 1 person has voted this message useful | |

There's a lot of online quizzes for evaluating your CEFR level, but they tend to be
wildly inaccurate (as in, they might tell you you're C2 when you're really B1+). If you have time and money, there's always the option of taking a CEFRL exam from the appropriate country. For example, France has the TCF, which tries to assess your level, and the various DELF and DALF diplomas, where you should know your level going in and you should study for the exam. Spanish has the DELE, German has the Goethe Institut exams, and so on. You could try taking an exam in your own country. For example, Britain has A- levels, Greece has CEFRL exams for French, etc. Research suggests that some of these exams are easier than they should be. So, assuming you don't want to use a wildly inaccurate online questionnaire, and you don't want to sign up for an exam, you have some options: - The Council of Europe actually publishes a very detailed self-assessment questionnaire: CEFR Levels This questionnaire is conservative: If it claims you're B2, you can almost certainly pass a B2 exam (at least in French!). - You could contact a private tutor who helps prepare students to take CEFRL exams. In my experience, a tutor who specializes in exam prep can accurately guess your level in about 5 minutes of chatting, because they're prepared dozens or hundreds of students to sit these exams. 4 persons have voted this message useful |
