Wow, it's been a long time since I've studied French or any language for that matter.

Well I started over with Michel Thomas French Foundation. I decided to post my progress
tonight and either subconsciously or serendipitously I happen to have completed to where
I left off: Disk 4, Chapter 3.

I'll take it as a good sign and continue.

Did some looking around to find out differences between the French in Quebec and France
and came across this great article and interview on Benny's site:

http://www.fluentin3months.com/quebecois/

It gave me the inspiration I need to continue. I've been wanting to visit Quebec for
a while now.

My language plan is to focus on French for awhile to get it more to the level of which I'm at
with Portuguese and Italian.

I like Michel but I get tired of his students. I found myself wanting to hear real French
with some text to back it up so yesterday I listened to disk 1 of "Assimil French with
Ease". I was surprised how much I could understand and how clear it sounded (granted,
they speak slower in the beginning of the course). I also find the female's voice very
sexy.

Today I listened to some of Pimsleur 1 at work. To be honest I find it annoying and
repetative.

I think I'm just going to stick with Assimil for now, supplemented by "Essential French
Grammar" and a phrasebook with audio, either Berlitz's or Lonely Planet's, maybe both.

I looked at some tourism information for Quebec. Seems there a lot of great biking up
there on the Route Verte.

Well, over the weekend I did MT Foundation up to disk 6, track 9 and the first lesson of
Assimil. I'm tempted to try the Paul Noble course as it sounds like the MT course but
with a native speaker and sans the students.

[edit]
The more I think about it, I don't want to hear Paul Noble, Michel Thomas or his students
tell me in English about French. I want to hear French. I can confirm structural
observations by reading the Assimil notes and looking stuff up in grammar books. I can
read much faster than people talk. And I learn better when I'm motivated by curiousity.

Well I ended up finishing CD 6 and finishing up to CD 7/Track 4 of Michel Thomas while
jogging. It seems like the best use of that time since I can't look at a book.

I am also learning French and found Pimsleur rather tedious. Good luck with your studies.
