My experience is limited to French language apps and my not be as commonplace as I think
it is: there have been some French apps which I couldn't find on the American store doing
a general search; I have gone to the French site (by changing the settings at the bottom)
and found the app I was looking for (again doing a general search on a keyword); returned
to the American site and search on the exact name of the app I wanted. I've, so far,
always been able to find it that way and to download it.

This may not be as common as I think it is but it may help someone.

If "books" means one thing and not many as in my usage it is grammatically correct. Don't let the s at the end confuse you. You can say "the media has been biased..." even though media it is the plural of medium, because it is referring to one concept, the collection of news media.

Not wanting to derail the topic but...

The "media" as you've used it there is a collective noun**. I suspect, you'll struggle to find a native English speaker that won't feel the phase you used is off. If you want the singular, better to have said:

"The book is a perfect technology" or "The book is the perfect technology" or "A book is the perfect technology".... - this could run and run

(cracking post by the way and I've got an eReader)

**Edit: Should have been a little clearer. As a collective noun it may be followed by a verb in the singular (I say may because you'll find plenty of instances where it's followed by a verb in the plural. "Books", however, isn't currently a collective noun, even if you'd like it to be in this instance.

I went to the Apple store and they confirmed that there are only 2 ways to buy apps or books from a given country's store: enter a credit card number with a mailing address in that country, or get a prepaid card from that country. Obviously, only option 2 is possible for me, but getting such a card is not easy (or cheap).
