Grammar drills seem to me a very good and fast way to start learning a new language. To me it is very appealing because no tedious memorization of word lists is involved.Only mininum vocabulary is needed to start practising and the words stick easier. As I go on with the drills I increase my vocabulary almost effortlessly with the minimum of fuss. What do you think?

Grammar drills can be a bit meaningless, and I often find that they involve more vocabulary than grammar, which is the opposite of why you like them.

This is exactly why I like them, for the vocabulary mostly. Not for the grammar. When starting a new language a lot of words are needed. And I find that grammar drills is a good way for me to start building up my vocabulary in that language.
