So, I have been doing more of the same....maintaining kanji, and doing spoken and listening practice at work.
On another note, I have been trying to find a native Japanese person to Skype with, ideally on voice. This proves to be INCREDIBLY hard, and disheartening. I have talked to about 5 Japanese people, just pleasantries ....they were all extremely shy, and difficult to talk to with on text, never-mind getting them on voice :(
I cant really learn much from text at the moment ( thanks to my love hate relationship with heisig ) I need a real audio interaction...I am hoping I will find a Skype buddy soon.
Also, I started going through Japanese Demystified.

I'm not sure, but sometimes I suspect this kind of conversation, where you say hello and talk about weather and food, well, this is Japanese. Mostly, this is what they talk about. I guess except people who study English talk also about language learning.

Don't be disheartened. I contacted a lot of people before I found regular exchange partners for voice chat. My Skype list has well over a hundred contacts, most who I never speak to. So keep trying, and be very up front about wanting to do voicechat. I also find it really helps to actually fix appointments with people in advance to meet for voicechat.

Yeah, I don't mind this type of conversation, I would just rather to do it on voice. My written Japanese needs so much work that I wouldn't even be able to begin asking them advice about it lol. However, if we were speaking i am much more confident and believe i would benefit more from that right now. I just feel its easier to communicate and learn from someone through voice at the moment.

I wouldn't recommend it to a beginner because it rushes through kana and introduces kanji in the first chapter. I would highly recommend it to a person who knows their kanji, and has gone through Heisigs " remembering the Kanji.
After going through RTK Demystified will help associate some of the readings of the kanji, and just get used to reading and writing sentences in general. Quizzes are also supplied at the end of each chapter to help solidify the presented material, which I like.
The only bad part about it is the lack of an audio cd.

It can be helped by finding a Japanese exchange partner who be daring, right?

Definitely, that would be a great combo.
*update*
my studies have been stagnated...I have been maintaining, but hardly improving on my reading and writing. I just lacked spirit the last few weeks. I am glad that i forced my self to maintain my studies though.
I feel like my Heisig situation is a catch 22. I hate doing Heisig, but I cant deny the results it has had thus far. I tried learning kanji other ways these past few weeks and it just wasn't working for me. So I wrote a goal on my fridge and on my white board to motivate me to do the second half of Heisig, even told my roommate to encourage me lol
Also, I really do like Japanese demystified, but I hate when I run into a kanji I haven't seen in RTK before. Its like no matter what I try to do, I am constantly reminded of RTK haha.
I am still looking for a speaking partner, just not as active as before. I hope I find one before summer though.
Listening and speaking practice is still my favorite :)
