Hi

I heard this comment that there's a difference in pronunciation of some letters (the "c"
and the "z" especially) between Castillan & Latin American Spanish.

I use Assimil Spanish which use the European pronunciation. But I much more prefer the
Latin American one (especially the Cuban one).

How should I pronounce those letters ? Just like a "S" ?

Thanks.

Z , ci, ce are pronounced like THick in most European dialects (some Andalucian dialects don't do it for exemple)

In America this is pronounced as a s, so zapatos sounds like sapatos in America and THapatos Spain.

Another difference might be that the J (jota) is a bit stronger, more glutteral in Spain and softer, H like in America (Hell, H), but the "strong Jota" can be heard in parts of México and Perú.

The English h [h] for j [x] is somewhat geographically limited: Andalusia, Canary Islands and Caribbean.

In Argentina J is [x] (english H [h] is used for the s at the end of the syllable):
justo ['xuhto]...In Carribean it's ['huhto].

The sound of Y varies too:
Yale is pronounced Yale in Chile, Jail in Colombia, and Shale in Argentina and Uruguay. ;)
