Sacrifices- none! I feel much more empowered using three languages than when I only knew one. Where would I be without El PaĆs in the morning and Rafinha Bastos on youtube. I'd be lost without bossa nova, salsa, merengue and reggae. How much poorer my life would be if I could only read Pablo Neruda and Fernando Pessoa in translation. I still make time for what I like to do in English as well. If I take on a next language my tale may be different!

You know it's quite similar in both the languages you're studying, right?
That said, I can understand your point if you're in an immersive environment where
you're speaking no English (or very, very little) for an extended period.

I would get more sleep.
I often choose to revise a little more instead of trying to fall asleep immediately. I would also go to bed
earlier some days if I didn't study. The downside is that sometimes I am not as efficient as I could be
when I study because I am too tired in the evenings (such as tonight...).

For a period of time, I rendered simple offerings of food on a raised marble tablet as a
sacrifice to Hermes, god of language and crafty wiles. Did not help one bit.

I used to be quite serious about writing poetry, but ever since I got serious about Korean I have not written a single poem. I guess that German is not on my mind enough when I'm actively studying a new language. I tried, but it didn't work - the language would not flow in the way it used to. Although it could have other causes, I think it is at least partly connected to language learning. Right now my brain seems mostly busy with processing Korean words, so they'll float around in my consciousness and block out a lot of stuff that might otherwise take up their space. I hope one day I'll be able to recover that skill - or at least write poetry in Korean instead :D

Good try, shame it didn't work. Made me chuckle and therefore deserved my vote.

I don't regard doing something I enjoy as a sacrifice. If it ever felt like a sacrifice I
would stop. Languages should be a pleasant hobby, not some kind of obsession

So far, I have sacrified time to spend on other hobbies, better grades, large amounts of
money and one pair of sunglasses. But then if I hadn't sacrificed all these things for my
languages, I would have sacrificed them for something far less useful.
