Last year I spent a lot more time in the gym and a bit less studying languages. This year I haven't been to the gym, so unfortunately, I've sacrificed my waistline.

...and then there is that. I've put on 20 pounds this year, and I am blaming it all on my language studies :-)

Sorry, won't be that easy: I've lost the same amount since I've started being more intense on languages, i.e. the beginning of the year. Perhaps it has to do with the languages involved? ;)

I've never seen a 3-D film, and I haven't been to the cinema in nearly two years. All the films I watch now, I own on DVD, and nearly all of them are in a language I've studied.

Wow, so for you guys learning languages is full time? For me it's a hobby where the only time I do it is
45 minutes a day in school, and this summer maybe 20 minutes a day.

Not exclusively my desire to learn French but my desire to make a future and integrate into France has
been the worst financial decision of my life. I'm going to fight like hell, though, to make sure the
experience isn't reduced to just a happy memory and my French just a nice hobby while I work to pay
for it but rather an investment in a future I couldn't have even imagined for myself or that could have
been possible a few years ago without it.

I sacrifice a lot of TIME to learn the language that I am currently learning (Korean). Especially as of lately, because I will be writing a proficiency test in a few weeks, I'm spending most of my day at work and almost all of my night (from 5pm to 10pm or so) just studying.

The thing is, I wouldn't call it a sacrifice. Am I loosing that time? I would say 'no.' The only thing I am sacrificing is the learning of other languages, which I would be doing if I had more of this 'time'.

Well, I definitely read less in Polish and watch less Polish TV/movies. But it's not
really a sacrifice, as I can read and watch amazing stuff in other languages I wouldn't
have the access to but for my language skills.

I don't really see learning languages as a sacrifice apart from some very rare
situations when I have to (or want to) learn something very specific in a short amount
of time, and I feel like I would prefer to learn something else.

The only sacrifice I make is sacrificing one language for another, as it's sometimes
difficult to find enough time to improve all my languages (or simply keep them, for
that matter).

Actually, it is learning languages that gives me a nice excuse to read bad literature,
watch stupid TV shows and spend too much time on the internet ;). I am exaggerating now
but you get the point. If I was doing all this stuff in Polish, it would probably feel
like such a tremendous waste of time.

/All corrections of my English are welcome and desired :) - send me a PM,
please./
