Well... I'm from Brazil and until I know here having internet it's very common.
I live in a capital and mostly in a university environment, however, you see people who make little money having iphones and all that kind of stuff and are connected 24 hours. "Smartphones" are a huge fetish here. But, we are not talking about that... If you see an article on wikipedia, "Languages used on the internet" you will see that portuguese have a "huge" portion of pages (i don't know what are the sources anyway). Of course less than french, German, Spanish and so on.. In brazil people flood sites like facebook, twiter and so forth. these sites have almost the majority of brazilians costumers (but you do not see them because brazilians are mostly monolingual) 5 persons have voted this message useful | |

It's almost the same on this side of the Atlantic: people are always posting stuff, sharing photos, videos, and so on.
I say "almost" the same because many people are not monolingual and, having foreign friends, sometimes the discussion toggles between Portuguese and some other language (mostly English). 1 person has voted this message useful |
