Fitting into other people's categories of 'sensible' and 'ridiculous' doesn't bother me at all. Why should I care about what others think of me? I find a lot of things ridiculous that are totally normal to others: like sports or discos or getting drunk to the point of losing one's mothertongue.
So, I don't care if other people think language learning or classical music or belletristic literature are ridiculous. I know exactly for myself that they aren't, because they are very important to me and I couldn't imagine living without them. To answer your question: There are no ridiculous reasons to do something. If you are attracted by something and want to do it: then simply do it! You will regret not having done something that you wanted to do more than having done something and getting ridiculed for it or finding out that it wasn't so interesting after all.
Simply put: Follow your heart! It will show you what to do.
