I did 3 years of French in school. I was the best in my class, but absolutely hated it, I ended up being allowed to ditch it prematurely in exchange for another non-language subject, because I felt that I would make far better use of my school time in a history class than in that godawful charade that they called language education.
I honestly cannot remember a single bit of what I learned just 2 years ago. But now I have decided to teach myself German, and in a week I have learned more than I ever learned then.
