Ahh yes. I've almost forgotten this thread over the past year.
I began taking Russian in college, starting at the intermediate level. Unfortunately,
with all my classes, I had limited time, and it seemed as if the class destroyed my
innate motivation for the language. It seems like I have to study a foreign language
intensively and independently to really get into it. However, the class was conducted
primarily in Russian, and I could tell that my listening skills improved dramatically
after a while.
I'll be taking a break and delving into the French world for a while. I still can't
really read Russian novels without a significant amount of vocab help, but in one year,
I've made more progress in Russian than I could hope for, and I feel that I've built a
strong enough foundation to pick up upon in the future.
A week ago, I was in the airport, and talked to a few Russians who were flying from
Moscow. And I was complimented on my speaking ability!
