I planned to study Swedish next week but I'm actually going to do Latin this week.

I've been wanting to know what Latin would be like for awhile now. I'll keep the Super Challenge up with Spanish, but I'll let Chinese go for a week.

I have a paper due Wednesday, and then the semester is over, but I want to try it now. I'll need a bit of a break from writing, though.

The book I have is "Learn Latin" by Jones. I heard in the past that this will allow you to read Latin at an elementary level when completed.

I don't think there are many audio courses for Latin, because most sudents only want to learn how to read the language.

I think this will be fun.

There is an Assimil course for Latin. Latin sans peine, i think.

Indeed, but the french records for the old latin course are so awful it's laughable.

You mean the pronunciation? Maybe the main goal here was not to teach students the
correct pronunciation but to use their audial memory.

Unfortunately, I don't know much French, so Assimil wouldn't be useful for me.

I can always listen to some Latinum to get a feel for the promunciation, although I don't really care to (eventually) learn how to speak Latin, I just want to be able to one day read ancient Roman and medieval texts.

Of course, it's only one week, so I won't get too much done, but I should get a feel for what the language is like.

Day One

I spent about 65 minutes finishing the first two chapters of "Learn Latin" and I studied five conjugations, 29 verbs, and 8 general purpose words.

Like any other language, it was a lot of fun. I'm looking forward to spending more time with Latin.

I'd heartily recommend Lingua Latina if you're interesting in learning Latin and would appreciate some accompanying audio with the text. And if I had the time to do it right now, I'd probably join you too. :)

I've heard good things about Lingua Latina, and if I decide to study Latin seriously I'll probably get the different volumes that make up the series.
