Hello sfeint, let me help you. I'm going to translate all the text and then compare
with your text. If you have doubts, ask me:

Quote:
He looked at the alarm clock and closed them. He was late,
again. Three days in a row. What was his problem? Ever since he left the hospital,
he has not been able to wake up before noon. And, he didn't know why. It was a simple
operation. Just corrective eye surgery. But now, no matter what time he went to
sleep, he woke up after noon.

Juan abrió sus ojos. Miró la alarma del despertador y los cerró. Llegaba tarde, otra
vez. (Ya eran) Tres días seguidos. ¿Cuál era su problema? Desde que dejó (se marchó
del) el hospital, no había podido levantarse antes del mediodía. Y (encima) no sabía
por qué. Era una operación sencilla. Solamente era una operación "correctiva de ojo"
(I'm not sure in this sfeint, I translate it literally). Pero ahora, no importaba a qué
hora se fuese a dormir, se despertaba después del mediodía.

I finsihed my first book. It was called Cuatro Cuentos De Grimm. It's a child's fairy tale book, but I may have picked the wrong one. It seems geared for an adult to read to a child as opposed to an early reading book. Took me a while to get through. I got very comfy with my dictionary.

I attempted to read a paragraph and if I understood what happened, I moved on otherwise into the dictionary I went. I avoided Google Translate as I wanted to figure out the verb infinitive on my own. I did improve my vocabulary and I was able to understand all four stories. So that was good.

For my next book, I downloaded a couple of freebies from Amazon for my Kindle which are beginner books and are not aimed at young children. So hopefully I can get through that book with less trips to the dictionary.

I found an interesting web site. It is the site my kids go on to practice Spanish in their classes. There are some online items that give grammar and vocabulary lessons using a combination of flashcards, quizzes and videos. One thing I really like about the videos is you can turn on sub-titles to go along with them. They show books related to classes available at schools for a given area. The FAQs states international students can make use of it too.

www.classzone.com

Anyway, just another tool for me to use.

Well got some bad language related news. One of the websites I go to for language help - Lenguajero - is closing down. I used that site to write Spanish and have others correct the writing (as I helped those writing English).

Guess I'll have to find a new place for that type of practice.

My Spanish practicing is continuing though.

One of my learning "techniques" is to write daily. What I decided to do was to try to write a story
(I'm hoping this will help me think up sentences instead of just repeating others' sentences).

That's a really good idea! I love to write fiction in English but it had never quite occurred to me that it would be
good to try to transfer the activity over to my target language. I particularly like the idea of making it a connected
narrative, since it seems like it would motivate you to keep going with it.

Now I'm running into problems with language101. That was my main learning site and now it has become unusable for me because it is so slow. For those not using the site but have used Anki and every time you click one of the buttons to rate how you did you have to wait 1 - 2 minutes before seeing the next card. I can't work like that. I did write into the web site (they are very nice and friendly) and they said the service provider is having issues. So hopefully they will get it resolved soon. I'm just frustrated that I keep losing studying time.
