Hello everybody!
I'm soon going to spend a semester abroad in Reykjavik and of course I also intend to pick up some icelandic. However, I learned that icelandic requires you to trill the r. Does anyone know if it's a serious problem if I don't roll the r? I've been trying to learn the rolled r for years, but unfortunately I just can't do it. A single flap is not a problem, Having huge difficulties pronouncing Spanish "rr's" like in perro! I'm still trying though ...

An 'r' consisting of a single flap is enough to speak Icelandic in a comprehensible way, - you don't have to produce a long tongue tip trill.

If you're a native English speaker, you will be able to pronounce a flap (think ladder, later, latter, butter, wedding, etc.) without a single problem. The Icelandic /r/ is not heavily trilled, so it won't be a problem if you can't trill it like mad.

I am also having trouble with the icelandic voiceless r which occurs mostly at the end of words - any advice on how to produce this sound?
