I have no problems using the construction tari..tari shimasu in Japanese but I am not sure how to use it in more complex sentences. Could someone check the following sentences?
クラスでタバコをすったり,たべたりしては けません.
こんどのしゅうまつ,にほんごをしたり,テレ をみたりするつもりです.
On my computer the kana are not all displayed correctly. The squares should represent ikemasen in the first sentence and terebi in the second.

You've almost got it perfect. The second sentence needs a better verb to go with にほんご. I assume you meant べ
んきょうしたり and forgot the べんきょう.
One of my Japanese school textbooks (got it from a friend) categorizes -tari as giving an "example" of activity.

Yes, I did. Thanks for the confirmation. Im using the textbook Genki and quite often there are too few examples given for a grammatical point, then you are expected to translate a phrase which is slightly more complex than the examples given.

When in need of example sentences, check out Space ALC. A search of the string "たりする" returns almost 1000 examples, without even getting into the possible conjugations for する.
