I have decided to start learning Italian, partly due to me working with quite a few Italians in my job. I have purchased Assimil Italian, and a handful of grammar and verb books, which are yet to arrive. In the meantime I am working on the basics.

Last night did 25 minutes on Italian words for "the" and "a". I weas surprised to learn that in Italian you have three ways of saying "the" plural (i, gli, le).

I also studied the verbs essere, and was surprised to learn that in Italian, unlike French, the word for polite you is NOT the same as plural you.

I have also been listening to Assimil Italian, and am pleasantly surprised by my comprehension.

My goal is a B2 in Italian, but I may revise this upwards or downwards, depending on time commitments and success levels.

Buona fortuna!

Italian is rarely arduous, often pleasant and sometimes delightful.

It seems that you and I have the same languages under the microscope at the moment.

Nice to see you joining our small band of Italian learners. Good luck with your
studies. I would recommend you try the first hour of the Michel Thomas course at
michelthomas.co.uk for free. It is a very good course for getting to grips with
grammar in a pain free way.

Indeed. The verbs for the polite singular you inflect like the verbs for the third person singular, which is the same mechanic as 'usted' in Spanish.

In bocca al lupo!
