I am having difficulties pronouncing the 'ayn and hamza phonemes in Arabic and need some advice. I have tried to search Google, but most articles I have encountered that discuss the subject assume some amount of prerequisite knowledge in phonetics. As I have none, I find it difficult to point myself in the right direction of creating and reproducing this sound.

Hamza is like the stop in the middle of uh-oh and the authentic way of saying Hawai'i.

I think that working through the FSI Levantine Arabic pronunciation course is a good way to learn to recognize and to produce some of the distinct Arabic sounds. It's free to download here:

The only way to figure out how the عين is pronounced is by listening and imitating it. There should be plenty of material on the web especially on websites like youtube.
