Welcome to the world of Amharic.
I am trying to learn it too, and so far I cannot say I have learned it, but I think reading texts with transliteration directly under it is helpful, it helped me with Burmese. There is a free DLI 200 hours familiarization course on Amharic for free and legal download. Just try to read it, looking both at the text and transliteration associating the signs with the pronuntiation and after some time you should be all right. I have found that learning scripts from a list is not very effective. Tried Cherokee on memrise, and I am feeling I could have learnt it in much shorter time using "the Burmese way" described above. but everybody has different way of learning a script, I believe.
