I will be going to Japan soon. Once I have moved into my accommodation there are some things I would like to do.
Firstly I would like to purchase a laptop. Can anyone recommend any good stores/makes based in Japan? Any specific models of laptop?
Then I would like to go to a DVD store. It will be like paradise for a while! The reason is that here in my home country it is difficult to obtain Japanese DVDs from DVD stores except for the really popular movies. Also encountering western movies with the option for Japanese language dubbing is also extremely rare. In contrast I find movies with Spanish and other European language audio options all the time.
I love watching movies in Japanese regardless of whether they are original Japanese movies or whether they are foriegn movies dubbed into Japanese. They really help for listening practice in my opinion.
So when I get to a good DVD store in Japan I think I'll look for the following movies in Japanese.
Kill Bill volume 1&2
American Beauty
Knowing (I have not seen this movie, just the trailer. But the vocabulary in this apocalypse themed movie seems to be off the hook. If I can watch it in Japanese I will be really happy.)
Maybe I'll try some comedy in Japanese like Scary Movie or maybe South Park the Movie.
Maybe some battle movies like Gladiator, Troy or 300.
Maybe some excellent Korean cinema for example the Vengeange Trilogy.
Maybe some Gangster movies like Goodfellas.
I want to get movies which are complicated, heavy in dialogue and good for language learning. Could anyone suggest anymore which meet these criteria whether they be Japanese movies or dubbed foriegn movies?

When you get to Japan, you should look for a place called "Book Off". I'm pretty sure they have branches all over the country. They have mostly books, but a lot of DVDs and video games too. Everything is second-hand so you never know what titles you're going to find, but the prices are very reasonable-- a good thing if you plan on buying lots of DVDs. The quality is still good too, even if it is second-hand.
You can search for shops in different locations here:
