Basic rule: some (..thing/one/place/etc) is used in positive statements and any is used in negative statements (with not), and in positive statements meaning Both can be used in questions, depending on the answer you're expecting.
Something is missing. He wrote something. Do you want something to eat? (generous offer) I don't know anything about nuclear physics. Have you got any milk? Is there anything to eat? I'm so hungry, I'll eat anything.
