1) My first question is the literal meaning/translation of "um nur einige zu nennen." I'm not stuck on the nur, einige, or nennen. It's the um ... zu that is troubling. I learned in my class several semesters ago that um ... zu means "in order to." Is this correct?

2) Is "feiern auf" a unit of its own, or are the two words semantically distinct in the phrase "Verschiedene Kulturen feiern auf verschiedene Weise." ??

1. um...zu does indeed mean "in order to". It conveys the meaning of "purpose" of an action. So the phrase you provided would mean "to name but a few"

2. I'm not sure what you mean by semantically distinct, but if what I think is correct, they are distinct words that need not go hand in hand.

1) Yes.

2) The two words are semantically distinct. However, "auf...Weise" translates literally to "in...way", so the meaning of your sentence would be, "Different cultures celebrate in different ways".

z.B., "auf die gleiche Weise" = "in the same way", or "in a similar manner".
