I actually agree with Aeroflot. For instance, the Spanish used in Chile is way, way
different from the one used in Argentina (and if you remember the geography, they are
right next to each other!) and even way more different than Spain Spanish. If you go to
this place ExtraLean recommended, I imagine you can expect native speakers from
different countries and that can be tricky, and I have the feeling this could be the
real reason of your frustration. Every native English speaker I have met in the last
few years here in Chile, have had one thing in common: They thought the plane had taken
them to some other country, because the thing we spoke here was anything but Spanish! I
believe this happens to anyone who has learned a language with some kind of software,
at college, or something like this, and then has had to actually go to a Spanish
speaking country or speak to a native. So, trying to understand them all, could be very
frustraring.

I think a wise thing to do is concentrating in one kind of Spanish, and once you have
mastered that one, understand the rest of them will come easier. Because of my job down
here in South America, I have to speak English (my second language as you probably
noticed already) over the phone every day with people from New Zealand, Autralia, USA,
UK, Ireland and other English speaking countries. Even though all these kinds of
English can be really different compared to the USA English (the one I learned), I
could learn to understand them without getting crazy having as a base the American
English.
