I have just written a post asking for recommendations of Japanese online novels which have difficult/rare vocabulary and many non-Joyo Kanji. Here I would like to ask for recommendations for good quality and challenging Anime.
I absolutely abhor immature Anime which is just full of continuous fighting, silly moves, power ups, etc... The Dragon Ball Z kind of garbage.
I absolutely adore mature anime with dark plots, interesting themes and challenging Japanese (a feature which immature kiddie Anime doesn't have).
If you could recommend any titles it would be great.
Thank you

Here's some series you could check out.
Deathnote
Paranoia Agent
Gankutsuou
Last Exile
Boogiepop Phantom(really really dark, based off a light novel)
Evangelion(gets really serious half way in)
Kuroshitsuji(strange, silly at times)
Garden of Sinners/Kara no Kyoukai
Paprika

Samurai Champloo? Have you seen this one? I'm not sure about the vocabulary, everything for me is difficult, but this one looks good, is smart, and funny -- the music is good.

If you don't mind a medical type anime - Monster. It's quite a long series but mature with interesting plot and I suppose, challenging language?
I would also second the recommendation of Kara no Kyoukai. Loved it to pieces, not sure if suits your challenging language criteria, but is definitely dark and interesting.

I'd definitely recommend MONSTER.
Dark, deep, challenging. Not to mention completely underrated.

I have not seen the anime, but the manga version of Monster is great.
If you want really challenging Japanese, you should check out 攻殻機動隊 (Ghost in the shell). I'm only familiar with the manga here as well, but if you want challenging kanji, reading is probably better whan watching any way.
Edit: speling...

I have seen Monster. Monster is THE Anime. Dare I say even better than Death Note in my opinion.
Is there any Anime you could recommend for people who like Monster?

This is my favorite anime series-Code Geass. The story line moves quite fast, it's a mech and "mind" anime, and gets dark soon in the the first season.
I found a site to watch anime a few weeks ago: http://blazinanime.com . They have episodes in Sub and Dub form.
Enjoy my friend
