For example the E's in "Ehre" [ˈeːʀə] (more closed) and "wecken" [ˈvɛkən] are pronounced differently. A more obvious juxtaposition is "Ehre" and "Ähre". On dict.cc there are well pronounced voice outputs by the user Halmafelix.

Though I have to admit the quality of the E sound also depends on the individual speaker and where they come from.

I'm afraid I don't understand what you're saying here: I'm pronouncing "wenig" and "welche" incorrectly ?

I didn't notice it yesterday but today I listened to your reading again and I could clearly hear a correct pronunciation of CH in "ich", "mich" and "prächtig". Sorry I caused confusion. "Welche" and the ending G in "wenig" are pronounced likewise.

Ah, thanks very much. I'm clearly pronouncing "Ehre" incorrectly. It sounds (to my ears) rather like "Irre" but with a lengthened "I" (I'm not up to much with IPA, so I can't describe it better).
