I find the way she's sitting annoying, like she's trying to hide something. I wanted to yell at her to sit facing the camera...

Is Sonja the one who is also in the demo on the website? I found her voice annoying and couldn't figure out where she is from (i.e., a Brit or a non-native English speaker. French? Whatever.
EDIT: nevermind, I may be thinking of the woman who is featured in the Assimil online demo.
So the "consensus" is that this Fluenz is a pretty good program but that it doesn't has as much depth and/or breadth that people might want?

That's a little premature. The lessons slowly build up because they recognize the
negative affects of overloading students in the early days of learning. You'll sometimes
hear her say things to the effect of "you have enough to work with for now". I appreciate
that.
Keep in mind there are different installments of 1-5. At least on French and Spanish.

not tried it but came very close to buying Mandarin Fluenz.
But in email i was told only 300 words are taught.
this is great for absolute beginners.
But because i finished Pimsleur - it seems useless for me. |

And priced to compete with the other elephant in the room. |

Yeah I saw those prices. Ridiculous.
But I'll give the Mandarin demo a go.

Emailed them as well. Level 3 is suppose to bring one up to 900+ words. I like the
program, I thank the developers for my foundation in French. The program is expensive
yes but no more than Pimsleur and one can always sell after. Their website has
downloadable podcasts, as well as a flash card section. They also have their active
forum and facebook pages. I also found the customer service to be excellent. Solid
alternative to Pimsleur and MT in my humble opinion, not mention much more dynamic.
Most people would find doing levels 1 and 2 to be sufficient ground work to follow up
with Assimil.

The bottom line for me is that even if it's good it can't be good enough to justify a price tag of over $300 when there are many other excellent programs and books out there that are either pretty cheap or completely free.
