Thank you! As for you, good luck with your studies. (:

---------

Alright, the 2 hour schedule won't work on weekdays. But a lesson of FSI followed by a journal entry on lang-8 and reading an article despite how much time it will take will work. So that's what I'm going to do.

Yesterday I finished lesson 7 of FSI and I'm right in the middle of lesson 08.

Thinking of hiring a tutor to improve my conversational fluency. What do you think? Are tutors a good idea or a bad one?

I think every diversity that you introduce in your methos is always a good thing.
By hiring a tutor you will have someone to interact and you'll improve certainly :-)

Maybe instead of hiring tou could met a brazilian to exchange lessons.
You teach English and the other person will teach you portuguese :)

That is a good idea. But still, a tutor would be a nice thing because you can trust that they're teaching you. Most language exchange partners I have tend to get off subject, or they lose the formal atmosphere by asking personal questions.

So yeah, I'm tired of looking for an amateur tutor/LE partner. I'm serious about learning. And signing up on websites like italki only to get a bunch of perverted 30 year olds (which are what I normally get) to hit me up on skype. It gets annoying after 20 or 30 times, y'know?

I don't know your situation but what you might want to consider is sharing a tutor. They can be expensive. If you have a friend (or 2, or 3) who wants to learn then you can share the cost for (something like) 30 hours of instruction.

Not only do you get someone who's accountable for teaching you, but you yourself will be motivated to prepare for each class since you're on a schedule and have some investment.

If that doesn't work I suppose you'll need to screen the perverts until you find one that speaks Portuguese....:)

That's true. I'll try to save up some money.

-----------

Obtained Grammar of Spoken Brazilian Portuguese by Earl W. Thomas. It's broken down into lessons, although the format could be a bit more organized. (Maybe even colorful and full of photos. :)) But ah well. Let's see how much I learn by doing a lesson a day.

QUESTION:
Has anyone ever used the Brasil: Lingua e Cultura textbook before? If so, what level does it take you to?
