Okay. I think my textbook was wrong or explained it in a confusing manner then. Thanks
for the clarification.

I've been learning Mandarin from mostly Taiwanese teachers thus far, so my Chinese is a
little Taiwan-y (han4 instead of he2, le4se4 instead of la1ji1). But I really want to
live in the Mainland for a while, and so I want to learn the Mainland way as well. I'll
look for those dictionaries you mention!

Hoping that works! Remove the extra space between 2 and 0.

Welcome to Tianjin China, Tianjin is one of the most livable international city (my hometown) in Mainland China.

OK, your pronunciation is excellent. Just keep on practicing and improving your Mandarin.

Okay, thanks! I was just worried that I was going in completely the wrong direction.

Tianjin and Nankai University sound very nice (I'm checking out the link you gave me
right now). I don't know much about the city though because most of my Chinese friends
are from the Beijing area.

Tianjin (famous commercial & industrial city in northern China, while Shanghai in southern China) is very close to Beijing (it takes half hour or more for Tianjiners to get to Beijing by high-speed train), and almost everything (including university tuition) of Tianjin is much cheaper than Beijing, and Beijing is too crowded with people and cars to accommodate more spaces for newcomers, whereas the current status of Tianjin is much better in some respects. Yes, Beijing is the capital & cultural center of Mainland China, but Tianjin may be more livable to some extent.
