Just a bit of background: I've been studying German (sixth language) for about nine to ten months and Dutch
(seventh language) for about four months. I can speak the basics of Dutch and I have a late-beginner grasp in German grammar. I've been teaching myself German completely through online resources (I'm quite surprised at how much I've achieved, actually) and Dutch as well, but since I've lately felt the need to advance in my skill in both languages, I'm strongly considering purchasing an actual physical book. I've been eyeing "Teach Yourself Improve Your German" and "Teach Yourself Dutch" to get further ahead. What do you think of these courses? Would you recommend any other courses (I already have "Hugo's Dutch in 3 Months" but I'm going to be away from it for a while)? 1 person has voted this message useful | |

I am Dutch myself I am teaching a friend Dutch and for that reason looked thru some Dutch study material. I think the CD's of Michel Thomas are quite good for Dutch. Ofcourse you dont learn to read or write but spelling is tought on the Cd's and there is much emphasis on contructing sentences. Studieplan.nl is a Dutch website that sells languagecourses for foreigners. http://www.studieplan.nl/leereentaal/anderstaligen/dutch_for _foreigners.html This one is specificly for Englishspeakers but it is quite expensive. I think you can expect more frrom it though since it has books + CD's and also teaches about the culture.
