Please tell me about this expression. 郷に入っては郷に従え is the spoken form right? 郷に入らば郷に従え is the 文語 form if I am not mistaken. Is this version only used in classical Japanese? Or is it also used in formal modern written Japanese? Also, am I right to assume that the latter version of this expression would never be used in spoken Japanese? 1 person has voted this message useful | |

I've never heard 入らば before.
Googling and a extremely small-scale survey (n=3) shows that 郷に入れば and 郷に入っては are both used. It seems like the latter form is "correct" though. 1 person has voted this message useful | |
