The descreption at amazon.fr says "vous vous laisserez imprégner par la langue, ses sonorités et ses tournures et vous vous familiariserez avec l'écriture", so I would say yes.

All the courses made by Assimil I have already seen teach and use the native script, namely Russian, Hebrew, Chinese, Japanese, Arménien, Persian, Yiddish and even their new Hieroglyphic Egyptian, so I think it is part of their policy, which I think is great.

I've seen it, and it definitely does.

Assimil will let you assimilate the script alongside assimilating the language. But if you're prepared to dedicate some study time to the script alone, there's no better way to learn it that I'm aware of than Sankaran Radhakrishnan's "Tamil Script Book". It's fantastic!

As an owner of this course, I can reassure you that Tamil script is used throughout the book. Up to lesson 48, Tamil texts are accompanied by their Latin transcription. According to my experience from other languages though, it would have been better to keep Latin transcription all the way to the 100th lesson!

Thank you all for your helpful replies. I am amazed that they are really people who have this course. How far have you got so far, Polyglot_gr? Is there in English version of Le tamoul sans peine? And yes, the book from Sankaran Radhakrishnan is really fun to use.

Well, when I bought "Le tamoul sans peine" I had no intention to use it. It is just for my collection!
With all those similar retroflex consonants, Tamil is very hard to understand when you hear it spoken. If I had to choose a South-Asian language, that would probably be Bengali. In my city there are lots of Bengali immigrants, you see them everywhere selling their merchandise! They are probably the kindest people among all immigrant groups!

After reading this thread, I bought the course because I couldn't pass it up. It arrived today, and when I saw the words "langue parlee" in parantheses on the cover, my heart skipped a beat, thinking that it did not include the script. However, once I opened the book (which is huge), it definitely does include the script, which appears to be quite a challenge. Once I finish up these other courses I'm in the middle of, I absolutely cannot wait to sink my teeth into it!
