I've been looking for Mongolian resources lately, and so far I've come up pretty blank.

I was curious, so, I looked at the wikipedia page for Mongolian Language . I scrolled down to the bottom for "external links" and found the American Center for Mongolian Studies Mongolian Courses. Amazing that I can sit here on a tiny island in the Caribbean and study the modern version of the language of Ghengis Khan if I so desire! Looks like a fascinating language with a cyrillic script and an indigenous script as well.Good Luck! Let us know how you get on!

I've been using the TUFS (Tokyo University of Foreign Studies) resources for Portuguese on the web and I thought that I'd go through the menu and see if they had anything for Mongolian and they do TUFS Mongolian I just use their Portuguese course without the Japanese translation but since you know some amount of Japanese, you will get a lot out of this site. I study Mongolian at university and in our course we use Colloquial Mongolian by Vacek Jaroslav (there's another book with the same title, but from a different author... Alan Sanders, I think, so be careful not to confuse them).
The book is pretty good, except for the fact that the vocabulary is written down at the end of each chapter in alphabetic sequence, which makes it much harder to remember the words than necessary... but I solved the problem by creating my own vocab lists. Well, of course the book is somewhat older already, without pics and stuff, but nevertheless it's always been the most reliable source for my language learning. It's quite hard find it anywhere, my professor drives to Czech Republic every year to buy some of the books and brings them back to Germany, so if it's possible to order it online at all, it might be fairly expensive. Edit: The book was originally written in Czech, but is also available in English. Our course uses the English edition. Does anyone else have any other resources for Mongolian? Preferably, some beginner

This is the other 'Colloquial Mongolian'. Although I'm not learning Mongolian yet, I found a copy half-price at a bookshop's closing-down-sale in Melbourne. Like the other 'Colloquial' series, it came with a book and CDs in a plastic case. This book seems really good, especially considering the scarcity of resources for this beautiful language. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

There's a DLI survival kit in Mongolian at this site: http://fieldsupport.dliflc.edu/index.aspx
I think you can download it without a password. It's not the best resource, since it's just a collection of phrases without grammatical explanation heavily focused on the military, but it's nice for the sheer volume of audio available.
