Best program for studying French? | ||

Hello boys and girls!
You have really great forum, I was googling for some materials and seems like I found the best place for it :) I`d like to start studying French, but not sure which program should I choose. Deutsche Welle released "Deutsche, warum nicht", not 100% sure about the title, but you can download from their web site the podcasts and all the transcripts. I think they have it up to level C1 and best of all, it totally free. So, my question is if there is something like this for French, or other alternative where you can get to level B1 lets say. Maybe you could check out this - http://www.tv5.org/TV5Site/enseigner-apprendre-francais/accu eil_apprendre.php They have some kind of audio materials as I see, also transcripts and other texts. I think they even had like a test for checking your knowledge, but I'm not sure.

I would certainly suggest FSI French Basic Course. It is very fast and thorough at the

For French, I have been using Michel Thomas and Assimil, and I just started using lingq. I specifically really like the combination of MT and Assimil. It has helped my French greatly over the last 6 months.

Thanks JPike1028, I`m sorry for the late answer, but I don`t have computer now.
I`ll try Michael Thomas for sure, but I hope it won't be like the Spanish course. I borrowed the CD`s from a friend and I couldn't stand the guy for more than 10 min. Plus, the accent was horrible, I`ve never heard people asking for zanahooooorias, they just ask for zanahorias. Personally, I would never recommend Thomas to a non-native English-speaker -- it was designed with an English-speaker in mind.
Dandas, I understand what you mean about "zanahooooorias", but you've missed the point. It's quite difficult for learners to learn the stress patterns in a new language, so MT exaggerates them to make them clearer. If you don't overemphasise it, you could end up with zánahorias or zanahorías or anything. It's a trade-off that I think works quite well. 2 persons have voted this message useful |
