I just want to learn how to read and understand Arabic, not to speak it. So far I've found Living Language Arabic Script and Teach Yourself Arabic Script
which or what do you recommend?

The Arabic Alphabet: How to Read & Write It
By Nicholas Awde and Putros Samano
I have both it and the TY book sitting open on my desk right now. They go well together, but if you need just one, go with the one above. TY will help you work more on writing if you need it, but the Awde has the most logical approach, in my opinion.

Mastering Arabic Script by Jane Wightwick and Mahmoud Gaafar is also good since it teaches both ruq'ah and naskh.

Teach yourself Arabic (Modern Standard)?
Or Teach yourself Gulf Arabic (Khaliji)?
Which is more suitable for beginners who want to learn Arabic?
