Kleberson,

I do this all the time with Spanish. Find articles that interest you and read like crazy. What I do is keep a notebook near my computer and write down every word I don't know. Eventually I have pages of new vocabulary to put in my SRS. This has helped me immensely with my vocab, and I'm sure it will help you too.

As for listening and speaking skills, you might be interested in the methods described on alljapaneseallthetime.com and antimoon.com.

An SRS is a lifesaver.

Also if you would like to see progress with your reading skills, flip to the same article in another language that you don't know on Wikipedia and you will see just how much progress you make. I don't have a clue what I am reading in Russian, but when I get back to Spanish it all seems so familiar and easy.

For me it's the only way to pick up vocab. I mean i've been using different methods and the problem that i get to is that the vocab used is usually really irrelevant to me. I mean it's much easier for me to remember the word for song or band, than it is for key and hotel suite. obvously is does little for grammar or speech but it's such a effortless way to learn vocab, than to sit down and memorize random selections of words.

I use this as a method to pick up vocab all the time, it's a great method! I like to use magazines and newspapers more than Wikipedia though, because I can highlight the words as I read along, it also helps to show me how much I understand, if I only have a few uncommon words highlighted, that means I understand a lot :P
