I met a girl in Florida a month or so ago who is she from Sweden..(just a friend if my girlfriend is reading this)

I had her number but was not planning on calling..today i wanted to have a real Svenska phone call( i tried to call last week but her grandma said she was not home)

* I have emailed her twice using some swedish**

Well today.. She answers the phone and I start speaking.... English!!!..i wanted to speak in Swedish but when I heard the Swedish on the phone i switched to English

( my brain ran away from Swedish like a model running from a Big Mac)..

But after a few minutes of talking in English i start slipping in Swedish words and a couple of sentences and she was saying everything i said was mycket bra!..(she may have been just being nice)

I was not happy with the call.. wanted to use more Swedish but my brain froze often on the phone..Big blanks..It brought back memories of my first Spanish conversations multiple brain stops and blanks!..

Observation: The Brain is great in practice but can be a punk in a real game..

Observation : Not knowing this girl made me switch to English to break the ice...i used English to remind her more of where we met

Observation : The brain will use many tricks to get you to give up the new language..After knowing Spanish I would get blanks where I could not remember anything..I mean nothing..It was like i never heard this language before!(It is a trick by the brain for you to give up..it sees no need for another language )but if you stick with it I discovered that it would comeback stronger..

Here is the plan..

1)
I Told my brain i was very dissapoiinted in his performance and he WILL be wacthing 2 swedish movies tonight not 1!..(and no dinner)

2) I was not planning this but I will now be calling Malmo AGAIN this week!..and I will be using much more swedish..

One positive observation : Her Grandma said when i called her "mormor" last week

( I called last week but my friend was not home) Her Grandma told my friend i sounded like a person from southern Sweden and she liked it..

Take care

It's usually considered good forum ethics here to either make a Language Log in the log subforum when you want to update on your progress, or at least only make a new topic when it actually concerns something else then what your previous topic was about.
