Comprehensive Swedish Grammar Books? | ||

Hello,
As some of you might now, Swedish is a compulsory school subject in my home country. I have now 'studied' it for 5 years yet I can barely tell about my basic activities and thoughts. The schoolbooks are absolutely mindblowingly terrible and obnoxious — Everything is so disorganized, memorizing of countless meaningless phrases is encouraged instead of actual understanding et cetera, so that's why I'm making this thread. What I'm looking for is a book in English that contains all the basics of the Swedish grammar from beginner to at least an intermediate level. I don't want flashy pictures, irrelevant fill-in exercises or audio dialogues, just what I'll summarize below: 1) Detailed grammar points divided into different categories in the book 2) Relevant example sentences for each point That's all. I have tried Googling and searching from Amazon, but so far I'm not convinced with the results, so I hope to get some inquiry by writing this thread, Thank you Edit: Looks like I input wrong keywords last time, since now I found this ( http://www.amazon.com/Swedish-Essential-Grammar-Grammars/dp/ 0415458005/ref=sr_1_2? ie=UTF8&qid=1318624901&sr=8-2 ), which looks pretty solid. Have you looked at what grammars are used in Finish Universities when teaching Swedish?

I'm sure they vary depending on the university, but even so I would rather learn from an English book since the languages are much more similar, allowing me to relate into it. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||
