My first encounter with Arabic was, when I was younger, I used to open MS Word and put different Arabic letter together and see that some of my combinations connected into one words while others didn't, so I thought some day I will learn just the script to figure out why it is like that.
Then after couple of years I started to learn the Arabic script just for that same reason, but somehow I started to listen to audio with Arabs speaking and it just hit me. I couldn't resist. Arabic was my second non-European language, Japanese being the first (but ultimately I stopped learning Japanese, because I didn't have so much motivation). I sat down and thought about the things that I love about Arabic language and culture - the script is just beautiful, the language sounds exotic and interesting, I just love those Middle Eastern music rhythms, though I have never been there I'm fascinated by the Middle Eastern countries, like AAE and Oman - these places look so cool to me with all those white and flashy buildings, clean beaches (what I've seen from photos). The only thing that I don't like is the a bit hard grammar, but that's because I've never been a good grammar learner even with European languages. Oh, and apart from the language itself, I just can't stand that "Why would you want to learn such a language?" thing from others. 2 persons have voted this message useful |
