Hi,
I just try two dutch books from gutenberg.org - Sprookjes by Grimm brothers and Alleen op de Wereld by Hector Malot - but IMHO they contain mistakes. Here are some examples I put between [ and ] Do dutch speakers agree with me or am I wrong ? DE KLEERMAKER IN [DEN] HEMEL Het gebeurde eens op een [mooien] dag, dat de lieve God zich in [den] Hemeltuin een beetje wilde vertreden; In Malot : ...door [den] schrijver aan [zijne] dochter Lucie opgedragen Thank you. 1 person has voted this message useful | |

Hi Michel,
These are not typo's, rather the texts you mention are old and therefore still use the accusative case. In modern Dutch this case and others are no longer marked (everything is 'de' or 'een'). Remnants of other cases can still be found though: s'avonds = des avonds = of the evening (genetiv in German) Greetings, Max Btw, my sister and I used to have an audio recording of Alleen op de wereld which you might still be able to get from somewhere. I remember we had to cry each time we listened to it because it's such a sad story... 1 person has voted this message useful | |
