What does he mean by this

"3. Do a short course with a bird's eye view of grammar and structure to tie things together "

He didn't spell it out in this video, but from skimming his other videos I think he means courses like "Made Simple," "Passport," or "Berlitz."

Maybe he is referring to courses similar to the "Hugo In Three Months" series.

You may want to consider FSI and Assimil simultaneously, "

Great minds, etc. After finishing two tapes of FSI French I had the same thought! I'm motivated now, but three months of FSI could be a challenge. It certainly is dry. Ive been overlapping the end of Pimsleur with the beginning of FSI, so I think I'll take your advice and try to overlap FSI with Assimil.

As a matter of fact, I'm doing the Assimil French With Ease & the FSI French courses together too. Although, FSI seems a tad dry at times, I'm glad to report that I find that these two approaches seem to complement each other very well.
BTW, if you're into FSI, try the FSI French Phonology Course. Those drills are a great way to clear the confusion that a speaker of English faces while learning a language like French; the spelling may be the same in both but the word is pronounced a whole lot differently in French than it is in English!
