Ok, last question for a while - does anyone know where one could find american films dubbed in Italian?

I can order from Rome - a place I found online - but the shipping prices are insane. Obviously, I already have a
region free dvd player, so that's not a problem.

Anyone know of a good place in the US to buy those Region 2 dvds? Even ordering it from across the country
would be better than having to pay to have them shipped from Italy.

I'm looking for popular american films - anything from Harry Potter to Social Network to Disney movies -
because that's what I prefer to watch.

Do you have a BluRay player? There are many BluRay disks dubbed in Italian. Find a movie you like on Amazon and then scroll down to the Languages section to see what is offered (the older the movie, the more likely it is there will be languages other than French or Spanish). You can also check the back of box covers at your local movie store

Example:
This one has English, Italian, Catalan, Swedish, Danish, German, French, Dutch and Japanese:
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

This one has English, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Japanese
Beetlejuice

These have English, French, Spanish, Italian, German, Portuguese
The Pelican Brief
A Time to Kill

I'm not sure how the prices compare to what you've already found, but
http://www.amazon.it/ has quite a few American movies dubbed into Italian. I gaze
longingly at them from time to time... next time I order some Italian books from them I
might throw in a few movies while I'm at it.

Where did you get a region-free DVD player, might I ask? I'm not sure if I have one or
not, to be honest.

Of course, another option would be to look around on the internet. I think I've found a
few shows and movies dubbed into Italian floating around, but most of them are uploaded
to Megavideo and then of course taken down from time to time.

You don't necessarily have to buy those movies. I don't know how it is in the USA, but in Spain (where I live) you can rent DVD movies from the libraries. It costs maybe 2 or 3 € instead of 15 or 20 €. As translator2 said, you just have to check the back of the box and look for Italian audio and/or subtitles.

Georigiqg -- unfortunately, the US is classified as a different region, and most movies
will have subtitles possibly in Spanish (Mexico's Spanish, I think), French and English,
because those are the languages spoken in the North American area. Europe is classified
as a different region, so you can find subtitles in the languages spoken in that area.

In the end, going to the library is only useful if you're interested in learning the
Spanish of Mexico or the French of Canada. Anything else won't be on the DVD if you get
it around where I live. Thanks for the tip though! If I ever get to move to Europe I'll
be checking out all sorts of DVDs like that :)

Yes, this makes me so sorry I don't live in Europe - everything would be so much less expensive and bothersome. I
even checked with blu-ray players - as someone said, it's a different region - I'm more likely to get mandarin than
Italian audio on my bluray!

Of course I can get an unlocked, region free bluray player but I have that in dvd player, and you still have to buy
those expensive dvds.

You can rent Italian dubbed films from the Italian Cultural Center on the upper east side next to the consulate (if
anyone else is in New York City and interested) but I want to own some so I can watch them over and over.

mikonai :Amazon.it was my first thought but HOW did you get them to ship to the US?? Please, please tell me.

I've tried to purchase from them, I even called the Amazon administrative offices – they said they won't ship to the
US. They'll ship everywhere but the US! It's so frustrating. Of course Amazon UK and Amazon France ships here, but
all our dvds already come with French audio.

Even went to little Italy – but they shut the Italian dubbed bootleg dvd store down (there used to be a good one).

At least when I start Chinese I can go to China town and get the latest dubbed Hollywood films – police have had no
luck shutting them down.

But seriously Mikonai – how are you using use amazon.it? It would make life so much easier for me.

Update: Never Mind Mikonai - just called amazon again, some of things I was ordering can't be shipped, but some of them can, so
I'll try to stick with amazon. Thank You.

Oh and translator2 -

Thank you very much for the links. I def. could just get a american blu ray player and try to find movies offered in
Italian dubbed - there are some. It just seems as though the movies I want most (of course) are not Italian dubbed. It
seems that Disney movies aren't and those are very helpful for learning. It's frustrating that I can't just order exactly
what I want.

But I might have to make do - those movies aren't bad at all.

Also, if you have a region free player, try e-bay. I purchased a lot of Italian movies and TV shows from there. Amazon.com also sells some Italian movies and TV shows.
