Hello Footnoted...Like you I am learning French...Like you I like the French
language very much.

I hope to acquire a basic fluency in French in the next five years.I am certain if you
keep up with your French studies that you will acquire at least a basic fluency in the
French language in the next 4-5 years.

With motivation and excitement about the language, I think one can achieve a decent level in less than a year. Talk
of 4 or 5 years is extreme. I have been studying French for just over 2 years now and I speak it fluently (B2-C1
level). After an amazing immersion program in central France and an internship (English-language, unfortunately) in
Francophone Switzerland, I went from taking a few classes at college to speaking! You can do it too!

Well done Alanjazz...Tres bien...Excellent...As to regarding the duration of foreign
language learning everybody is different.Everyone has their own pace of learning.
Some people can learn a language very quickly but for many people it takes many years.

4-5 years was only an estimate of mine.Like I said before the duration of foreign
language learning depends very much on the circumstances,the level of the language and
the motivation of the the foreign language student.
