While in high school, I expressed an interest in Persian and that Christmas I received the book "Colloquial Persian" as a present. All I can say is that Santa Claus totally supported my language studies.

I started learning Arabic a a little less than a year ago, and my parents were supportive of it, although they were confused as to why it was Arabic that I was interested in at first. When I explained to them, they realized that Arabic is a great language to study.

I've had similar experiences with Arabic too. People always say..."well, we're glad that at least somebody will know what the terrorists are talking about". And of course...let's not forget the general stereotype of Arabic sounding like a dog choking on a bone.
Once after receiving my exhaustive Al-Mawriid Arabic-English dictionary through the mail, I proudly showed it to one of my friends and she remarked that it looked like someone had let a kid with a black and red marker go wild!
