I'm currently studying Japanese and French. I do most of my studying on the computer and so I often use online dictionaries. I'm also using Anki and I like to add native-speaker audio to my Anki cards. For French I usually use Larousse, which is great for my needs but I haven't found a similar Japanese-English dictionary.
I usually use WWWJDIC which I'm quite happy with, but the one thing it's missing is audio files for each individual word. With Larousse I can just copy the mp3 file and paste it into my Anki card, and so I'd like to be able to do that for Japanese as well. So can any of you suggest a Japanese-English dictionary with audio files? Failing that, a Japanese-only dictionary would also work. Thanks 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

I really enjoy www.tangorin.com -- it takes its info from jdic and offers links to entries in other dictionaries. It
doesn't have sound, BUT you can add entries to srs decks you can then export. WWWJDIC does have sound for most words... That's already pretty good and it's a fairly recent addition. Pretty sure you can add a link to you cards, but I'm no pro at Anki. I used to add a link to an online Japanese only dictionary that indicates pitch, but you couldn't hear the word, just read the info. I also have an electronic dictionary and it does have pronunciation for almost every word... But no SRS. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

Thanks for the reply, Arekkusu. I've never used Tangorin before so I'll check that out.
On WWWJDIC the only audio I've found are the links to Japanesepod101. Is that what you're referring to? I'd prefer a dictionary that has audio in-house, so you don't have to go to another site everytime you want to hear a word, but maybe there's nothing like that out there. WWWJDIC is the only one I know that has audio, and it's already been mentioned.
However I am a little confused as to why you have to go to another site to hear it? For me there are buttons beside the words and I just click it and it plays. No going to any other site. Am no computer wizz though so not sure what your problem may be. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

Thanks, guys. I see what you're saying now about WWWJDIC. I may have been having problems accessing the audio before because of NoScript, but I'm not sure. Anyways, it works fine now. Although the sound files aren't downloadable, I guess I can at least check the pronunciation initially.

Kaizen, look for a firefox plugin called FlashGot, and you should be able to download most audio clips. You may need to actually play the audio clip first, then rename the file name once downloaded.
