PLEASE READ BEFORE VOTING

It seems like I meet a pretty high percentage of smokers on my travels, but none of my language partners are
smokers. I'm curious to see if polyglots are less likely to be smokers than non-polyglots, so I've started this poll.

The question is "I have learned a foreign lang to fluency as an adult and I", and the answers "smoked" or "didn't
smoke". Let me qualify this. I'd only like responses from people who have reached fluency (lets call it B2 here) in a
foreign language as an adult. Please don't vote if you haven't reached this level. And by smoking, I mean that you
smoked tobacco on a regular basis for the duration of your language learning period. I'm not talking about pot. I'm
not talking about someone who smoked once a month at parties. I'm not talking about someone who took up
smoking after learning the language. Etc.

Translation in English : I smoke scarcely, in German we call it a "Genussraucher", 1 to 3 cigarette a day. If I party, then I can smoke 1 or 2 packet a night, but I don't see what it has to do with learning a language.... If I studie, for example in the library, after a few hours I go out, smoke with friends, we talk about what we learned etc. (I'm still studying).

I have the impression that in Switzerland, smoking is relatively common. If I go out with friends, the percent of smoker is higher than the percent of no smoker. The average age of my friends is around 24 (all have at least one or 2 degree).

Smoking was forbidden in public places in 2009 (restaurant, clubs etc) and it has been forbidden earlier in the trains, 2006.

I don't smoke marijuana, but I know a lot of friends who do it.

There may be no relationship at all; I just want to see if the percentage is lower on this forum, as has been my
personal experience while traveling. If the percentage is much lower than 17% here, maybe we can speculate as to
the reasons.

I imagine the reason is that in most countries educated people smoke the least.

Some statistics for the US:

Education and percentage who smoke:

0--12 yrs (no diploma)     26.4
High school graduate       25.1
Some college (no degree)   23.3
Associate degree         19.7
Undergraduate degree     11.1
Graduate degree        5.6

I wonder if it's the same in other countries?
I don't think there's a similar correlation in Russia.

I don't smoke in regular life.

I don't smoke while learning a language, either.

I voted no.
