I have Arabisch ohne Mühe heute (77 lessons), which is the most recent course. Arabisch ohne Mühe (42 lessons) is part 1 of the older one, what you refer to as the "good" one. I don't think they ever translated the second part of that course into German.

zorglub, can you tell us how you sped up the recordings? I have l'arabe sans peine at
home, but when I try and speed it up it sounds equally unnatural.

I use Audacity (which bu the way I have deleted by accident but it's free Mac and Woindos)
There are 2 ways to speed it up one that makes it sound like Mickey Mouse and one which keeps the voice normal , I think it sis the"tempo" setting.

My review will have to wait for some considerable time, since i haven't had a serious go at Arabic yet. I did around 14 lessons more than a year ago, and what I did I did like. The progress is slow, but that suited me well since it was the first "exotic" language I was having a stab at. While flicking through the French edition I noticed that the explanations was differing more than usual from the German version, but I can't remember any details.
A more experienced learner might advice you on what course to prefer, and I believe there are other useful threads on the subject on this forum.

Actually there are three versions of the course:
the new one with 77 lessons (one vol.)
the old one with 100 lessons (two vol.)
and the very old one with just 42 lessons (one vol.)
And since the "Arabic With Ease" course is the one with 42 lessons I assume that the criticism of NPR concern this very course and not the newer ones. |

This not correct. Perhaps the matter has been clarified already, but just to be perfectly clear:
There was never a "very old one" with just 42 lessons. That 1 volume was simply the first of the two volumes in the "old one" with 100 lessons.
The recordings of that 42 lesson volume, like those of the 77 lesson current one, are so maddeningly and artificially slow as to make them really unusable.
The second volume however, for all the reasons given above by Al-Malik, is really quite excellent. But, you need to know French in order to use it. For some reason, only the first (awful 42 lesson) volume was ever translated into English, German, etc. Hence the confusion.
