I am curious, from where does everybody buy the second level of Assimil? It seems to me
that you can only buy it directly from Assimil. For what it is worth, I am in the US.

Truthfully, I get the audio from inter-library loan and then I buy the corresponding book from half.com

To the original question... I have not yet done Using Spanish because I chose to spend more time with With Ease and Without Toil. Using Spanish looked like a significant jump in difficulty so I wanted to save it for later when I was more advanced. I agree with whoever said doing a second active wave is great.

Regarding finding the second course... or any Assimil course in the US... try www.Schoenhofs.com that is where I got my Using Spanish. The price was reasonable. You may have to buy the audio separately from the book for some of the more obscure courses or the ones that are not available on the Assimil site.

Thanks for all of the information about purchasing Assimil Using Spanish. Am I correct
that you can only get the Assimil Using Spanish audio on cassette? I wrote Assimil and
they claimed to not to even have the course.

Using Spanish is out of print. The French is the same (except the translation is in French) so the CDs
(available separately- and all in Spanish) for that course works with the English book. You can pick these
up quite easily from Abe, etc.

To me, Using Spanish is a useful book for the point when you are pretty advanced in
Spanish - but I had huge problems with the inaccurate translations from (I assume) the
original French to English, that crop up in nearly every lesson. There are mis-
translations, spelling mistakes and just really weird phrases that made the book a
chore to get through.

I know this issue has been mentioned before, but it bears repeating as the problem was
so extreme that it really did make a difference to my enjoyment of the course. It was
so annoying that I have never really used it. Now that I can just read the lessons in
Spanish, and just check the odd word, I'm about to get around to making real use of it.

Hopefully they will one day reissue the second level of Spanish with a more clear and
precise translation.

So my advice would be this - absolutely get this course. I hope you enjoy it. Don't
spend a fortune on it, though.

Truly, this is the best way. I do this way every time I can.

Is there a difference between the 1999 and the 1996 version? Or is the one just a reprint of the other?
